The Other Press: Snakes on a Plane

Okay, a slightly better likeness, as artist JJ McCulloch used a more recent photo, then he added the Rubiks Cube. Not that I'm complaining or anything, but the only thing JJ missed was the mustard-yellow skin like in the WW2 propoganda comics.

For this article, several members of The Other Press staff went to go and see Snakes on a Plane on opening night, given its surrounding hype and buzz, and then we all wrote a mini-review of the film, commenting about a specific aspect. I focused on the audience participation angle.

-Bringing on the BTs: For this piece, I attended Brian Transeau's (better known as BT) DJ set at Richards on Richards and wrote an accompanying review. I ordered the guy's most recent CD through Amazon and I still haven't received it yet.

The Other Press: "Clerks 2 Review"

Wow, good likeness! Too bad artist J.J. McCullough used an old photo.

Fangoria Magazine issue #256: "Live Feed"

This issue hits stands August 22, 2006.

For this issue, I covered the low-budget horror flick, Live Feed, a dark and disturbing grindhouse thriller about tourists who enter an adult film theatre on a dare and end up in an underground world of murder and cannibalism.

I interviewed the actors and was on board for two nights to see some pretty disgusting stuff. I don't know if the interview I did with the director is going to be on the DVD or not.

The Other Press

Movie review - Curious George
Music review - Meesh: Touch
Comic book review - The Defenders #1-5

Sadly, archives of individual articles from January published issues are not available, although I do have work featured in the January 11th issue (specifically, a review of Syriana) and a comic book reviews featured in the January 18th and February 1st issues.

And of course, don't forget my comic strip, Major Studio Production, which is published (almost) weekly in The Other Press.

Fangoria Magazine issue #249: "So You Want an Evolution?"

This issue went on sale December 6, 2005. For this one, I was on the set of Underworld: Evolution with Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman. Interesting experience, although I haven't read the edited article yet.

The Other Press

Movie reviews:

Into the Blue
The Constant Gardener

Book reviews:

How to Get Busy, According to Books: This article was originally written for The Other Press "Sex Issue." For this, I had to read and review four self-help sex books, namely The Kama Sutra and Sex for Dummies by Dr. Ruth Westheimer. It has since been picked up by the CUP (Canadian University Press) newswire, the university press equivalent of Reuters and the Associated Press.

Word on the Street: For this piece, I went around to several New Westminster public schools and interviewed striking teachers. This is what I ended up with.
