Diversity 2005: "I Am..."

Douglas College is host to the President's Writing Contest, which accepted pieces of prose, fiction, and poetry on the subject of diversity. The winners are collected in the 2005 Diversity booklet. My entry, entitled "I Am...", is included in the publication. As of this writing, I still don't know what the prizes are, apart from getting published. As it is, the reception celebrating the achievements of the writers, occurs during one of my classes.

Excerpt:

I am nondescript
I go into a store where my friend works
I ask the guy behind the counter if he’s working today.
The guy behind the counter goes to the back to see if he’s there.
“Who is it?” my friend asks. “I don’t know,” the guy responds, “Some white guy.”
